KSU Sejahtera Tani

We've been trying lots of unique coffees from Indonesia in the past year. Traditionally, Sumatrans are washed in the giling basah method, which is what contributes to their earthy, tobacco-y flavor. This naturally processed Sumatran, however, is fruit forward, mellow, with a bit of the maltiness that Sumatran beans are also known for. If you like Indonesian coffees, this is an interesting diversion from the standard without getting too far from home.

About KSU Sejahtera Tani - This coffee is sourced from a small coffee farmer group named KSU Sejahtera Tani, located above the city of Takengon, Central Aceh. The coffee is harvested between 1550 and 1800 meters above sea level in the counties of Pegasing & Atu Lintang. The farmer group consists of about 20 families and this is their largest export to date. No farmer in this group produced more than 850kg of coffee and the smallest lot was about 18kgs. The coffee was sorted by hand to ensure the highest quality beans.

The farm group experienced several challenges this season; the country experienced a drought of record magnitude, causing the farmers to lose half of their harvest in some locations. This caused a severe shortage of coffee and an incredible volatile price for the farmers.

Packaged in 12 oz bags.
